homeland security/insurance company policies

So why is it that all of a sudden companies are labeling ex-convicts as unworthy or distrustful, or incapable of performing any job tasks that of the private sector??? I’m a truck driver who was laid-off more than 18 months ago… I’ve yet to land a job during the recession. whereas, before I would land a job within days…now, I’m confronted with employers who place obstacles such as credit reports, criminal background checks, and or, past expierence…Explain to me why employers would see a ex-felon as a liability, or over-quailified to swing a mop, use a shovel, flip burgers,or pick up trash along side a road… I just need a job where a can be trusted with their cargo… I’ve been trusted before with millions of dollars of merchandise for many years, what gives?? Double standard, here??

It is pretty much how your frame your past criminal history, starting with the application and questions that ask…Have you ever been convicted of a felony? Always answer yes, and under explanation you can record the citatation also know as the I C( Indiana Code) or other state code. If it is a theft say : took something that did not belong to me. This sounds a lot nicer than, THEFT. It is how you frame it on an application. Offer up to be bonded and then ask your state’s department of workforce Development to issue one to your potential employer. It does work. Try these ideas.

I understand your frustration, but it’s a part of life. You are an ex-convict and your dealing with the consequences of it. It’s hard enough to find a job right now even with a clean background, so it’s going to be even harder when you have a shady past. You have to look on their side of things, if you have someone applying with a clean past and someone applying who is an ex-con of course they are going to go with the clean person.
