Why do I cough when cleaning my ears?

When I use a cotton bud to clean my ears out, I don’t think I’m going to far. But whilst doing it I’ll get this sensation down the same side I’m cleaning and sometimes it will make me cough too. It doesn’t hurt or anything, I just wondered why I get those feelings?

The same happens to me. :) I think it hits a nerve that triggers a cough.

Probably a nerve. I never do that. It always feels really good when i clean out my ears lol.

Its beacause your ears, nose, and throat are connected. When you put the cotton tip in ur ear try not to put it so far in ur ear, that shud prevent the coughing a bit
