Best ear cleaning methods?

What are the best methods of cleaning the ear canal?..is hydrogen peroxide safe?..and how to use it?

Answer #1

If you have mild wax buildup, try a Q-Tip with a little baby oil. Don’t go in too deep, as you can damage your eardrum. When I shower, I stand so that a single jet of water goes directly in the ear. It seems to clean things out good. If you think that you can’t hear very well, you may have a wax plug built up in you ear. Go see a doctor and he will wash it out with a special ear syringe. No matter what you do, be careful, though. The eardrum is very fragile and can be wrecked with careless cleaning.

I’ve never used hydrogen peroxide to clean my ears, I just use q-tips and gently swab the outer ear. I had ear infections as a kid (and once put a rock in there, long story).

The inner ear is VERY sensitive and self cleaning for the most part, so you shouldn’t have to worry about any extra build up in there. IF you are concerned about this, don’t put anything in there yourself, consult a doctor.
