Coping with sad feelings.

  • READ BOTTOM FOR BACKROUND INFO * Well I was just recently in a suicide hospital, my Grandparents admitted me after they found the empty bottle of Vicodin and me on the bathroom floor.. They took me to Immanuel Hospital. But in the hospital they tought me some ways to cope with sad and angry feelings.. And since I’ve been out of the hospital I haven’t been able to stop thinking about my parents. Like, they died from drugs and alcohol, and I’m addicted to both.. And it just gets to me knowing my life is going down the road theirs did when they were my age. Which is stressful. Normally, the coping skills they tought me would work.. But in this case, once I start crying, I can’t stop, and once I get all fired up and angry, I can’t seem to control it, and the minute I think about hurting myself I just go off and do it, without even thinking.

So my question, what are some coping skills besides listening to music, writing, reading, .. You know..

BCKGD INFO I’m not one of those kids who lie about this stuff, to get attention. This is true. Mk. My parents, Mom and Dad, were both on drugs and always drunk, you know.. Just the life that responsible parents shouldn’t be living when they have three kids, or at all to begin with.. My dad passed away when I was two, he commited suicide through overdosing on heroin. And when I was six, my mom got in a car accident when she was drunk, got ejected through the car, and died. So I have no parents, and I live with my grandparents and my sister Jaimie. Sucks.

I started to read your question, but decided to go read your profile first and then come back and finish with the question.

I’m glad I did that, so I can feel free to be honest with you, not as brutal you think you are, but honest, none the less. I also “felt” that you don’t like yourself very much, why else pre-suppose what everyone else is going to think of you? Maybe you aren’t as “brutal” as you think?

You learned some coping skills in the hospital…that’s good…but you say you’re addicted to pills and alcohol, also…they teach “coping skills” in both AA and NA, too…behavior modification, in a way…and you can go everyday to get a “fix” (not just when you’re confined to a ward)…

You have the right to be angry…you haven’t had an easy life so far…but if that anger (and self-pity) is going to destroy you, why carry that baggage around? Why not utilize the help of others who may not have had such a hard life (and some who have had it way harder), but still have something to offer you?…maybe take in some meetings? Like give them 90 days of your life, “just to see” if there is something there you can use? Give yourself a chance to see who you really are…”who” really lives within your skin??

There are many things in life that have no answers…questioning, wondering, and feeling like sh*t over your circumstance is spinning your wheels in a place with crappy scenery…time to move on…one step at a time.

Sadness is a strange feeling.Just know that you are not alone. There are millions of people everyday coping with suicidal tendencies. Hll, even I considered it one time. But suicide is the cowards way out. Even at the age of sixteen I understand that to win happiness, you must take the as kicking the world gives you. Under all that sadness there’s a monster waiting to be let loose on the world. Remember you dont have to follow in your parents footsteps. Dont end a perfectly salvageable life, you have the right to live no matter what problems you have. From experience, I know that drug addiction is no easy mountain to overcome but you CAN achieve it. Unleash the Beast..
