how do i change my sons last name from his fathers to mine?

Can i do this without permission of his father? i have full custody and he only sees my son when he feels like it

Answer #1

I would suggest consulting with a lawyer…you will get your best & worst scenario either way & know how to proceed from there without a shadow of a doubt!

Good Luck!

thank you.that probably is the best way.

You do not need a lawyer to changeyour sons last name. All you need to do is go to your local courthouse and get the papers that need to be filled out. Someone will speak with you about it there and make sureyour changing the childs name for a good reason and on your free will.

Answer #4

so im not going to need his fathers permission? and im not exactly sure they will think its a good reason.

Answer #5

No you do not need the fathers permission to change the last name. If you dont feel the court will feel you have a goood reason to change it then maybe you need to think about this some more. Dont just change your childs name for selfish reasons or to get back at the dad, make sure your doing it for the right reasons.

An attorney will give you all the RIGHT ADVICE as to how to proceed with your request…if they feel its not in your best interest to go forward and waste your time & money by going through the entire procedure then they will strongly advise against it…but if they feel you have every right based on the issues at hand, feel that you are entitled to do as you see fit having full custody and the father only visiting when he feels like it, then they will advise you to go for it… Unfortunately none of here are authorized & registered attorneys at law…so please take all advice as just that…free advice! Good Luck sweetie…♥
