What's the chance I'm pregnant? Which pregnancy test is more accurate?

Friday night (3 or 4 AM Saturday morning actually) my boyfriend and I had unprotected sex. (I know, it’s stupid. But we just weren’t thinking because we’re idiots.) Anyway, I told him to make sure he pulled out. He did, because he pulled out just in time to get it all over my sheets. So I was a little worried that some still got inside me. 6pm on Saturday, I took the Next Choice pill, then took it again 12 hours later as directed.

My period is irregular often so I can’t really tell when my period is supposed to be.

So…what’s the % of how often emergency contraception works? And how long should I wait before taking a pregnancy test? And when I do take one, are the urine home tests or the blood tests done at clinics more accurate? If the urine tests are, which brand should I use?

Please answer, and thanks for answering. :)

Any take-home pregnancy test will be fine. You typically wait 2 weeks after unprotected sex, or after a missed period if you are regular. Blood tests done at the clinic are typically more accurate than take-home pregnancy tests.

whats the high probability that you are just 16 and have not told your parents yet, but are not sure if you are ornot?

I’m not sure what the percentage is, but I know that if you get an at-home pregnancy test, I would stick with first response. I’m currently 30 weeks and 4 days pregnant, and that’s what I used to get an accurate reading. I do recommend going to a clinic though and getting a blood test because those are more accurate than anything, and can sometimes come back faster than an urine reading. (I know from experience)

You have to be 17 years old to buy an emergency contraceptive without a prescription. I’m 19, not 16. I have told my parents, just not right away because I’d rather do it in person rather than via a phone call.

Aside from the point of this, my age shouldn’t be an issue anyway. I’m not part of an organized religion, so I have no reason to wait until I’m married to experience sex for the first time. However, out of respect to myself, I did wait until I met a guy that treats me well and that I trust, which is why I waited 19 years.

I don’t intend to sound rude, but to answer your unhelpful response…Chance I’m 16? 0% Chance I’ve told my parents? 100% Chance that I’m pregnant? 0% Though I had a momentary lapse in judgement due to being caught up in the moment, I still took responsibility for my actions as soon as possible. And that seemed to work.

Also, it’s really annoying to get responses that send out judgmental vibes to the asker. It doesn’t answer the question, which is what this website is about. So it’s just a complete waste of time for both you and me.

The percentage is - 85% prevented IF any sperm got in you (obviously 100% if no sperm!) That missing 15% is if you already ovulated before the morning after pill.

I have no idea which home kit is best, but surest of all would be a medical office - doctor, clinic, or Planned Parenthood. Then you could also discuss alternate methods such as BC pills, IUD, etc which are almost 100%, and you would be where you could start that method soonest.

Congrats for being willing to take responsibility. I feel that no matter what happens, you will have a good life. (And I don’t mean in a religious sense - I am an Atheist.)

Good Luck!!
