What are the chances of a pregnancy test being wrong?

so my friend hasn’t had her monthly visit in like 2 months but she is on the shot that’s every 3 month’s, she took a pregnancy test and it came out positive, she says she believe’s she’s not because she’s never had unprotected sex so is there any chance the test is wrong??

Answer #1

The chances of a false positive are extremely rare - unless she was on some sort of medication such as a phenothiczune, her test is accurate.

Answer #2

To add to that…some types of cancers can also create a false positive, so she should really check with her doctor

Answer #3

the sensitivity of a home pregnancy when conducted under laboratory conditions is pretty good, its about 0.91. However, when these tests are not usually conducted in a lab. They are conducted by people at home, and due to errors, the sensitivity drops to about 0.75. So yes, false positives are possible. Best way to know for certain is to see a doctor.
