What Cells and Organelles are affected by obesity?

Answer #1

The most obvious thing that comes to mind are adipocytes (fat cells). Existing adipocytes will first swell with fat, then increase in number. After weight loss, the amount of fat in the cell decreases, but the amount of the cells doesnt decrease. Other cells that I think would be effected would be endocrine cells, as obesity affects hormone secretion. Im not certain which organelles would be most affected though. Its probably safe to assume the mitachondria would be affected somehow, as they are the organelles involved in prodution of ATP
