Here are a few (not seventeen!). As already mentioned, there are more than seventeen anyway. But here are a few and also a brief description of their function

nucleus - contains DNA, assembles RNA in the nucleolus mitachondria - Cell respiration (where the cells energy - ATP - comes from smooth endoplasmic reticulum - Protein synthesis rough endoplasmic riticulum - Protein synethesis (especially relating to detoxification) golgi apparatus - modifies and packages proteins chloroplast - plant version of mitocondria, involved in photosynthesis vacuole - plant version of a lysosome. It breaks down old organelles and recycles the components. Also helps maintain turgor pressure
