Can my cat sleep with one eye open?

I think my cat has gone blind in one eye. He had a virus and his eye got infected. It finally turned solid red and now it’s white. That eye is open all the time. It’s like he has no eyelid. Does anyone know if he can sleep with one eye open like that?

update on Toonces.

Go to the question I posted about why a cat won’t stay inside. You’ll find it on your list of questions answered or my questions asked. I have posted an update. Carol

I’m so glad you had a vet look at him…So many on here don’t bother to go to the vet, and I don’t understand it. I’m relieved that the eyedrops are working…he’ll probably be right as rain in a weeks or so.

I think you should take him to the vet. It sounds like to me that he is blind in that eye. But you should take him to a professional.

I;m not supposed to take him back to the Vet ubtil he finishes his eye drops, plus I am disabled and can’t drive anymore. The Vet came to me when Toonces had the virus. They brought antibiotics and he’s still on the eye drops. It’s a common thing that happens to cats. Lastnight, he layed on my lap and closed both eyes and went to sleep so I feel better about him. It was just the thought of him sleeping with one eye open even if he is blind. So now I know that he IS sleeping and with both eyes closed. Thanks or the resposes. Carol
