Can I go to a 4 year college with a GED?

I’m 17 years old. I’m studying right now to get my GED. I really want to go to a 4 year university. But I’ve heard you should take the SAT and ACT to get accepted. I really want to be a dentist. How hard is the SAT and ACT, and how do I go about taking them since I’m not in High School anymore? Would I be able to get in with out taking those tests or going to a community college for 2 years?

You dont need to be in highschool to take the SATs, they’re not that bad, just buy a prep book, also not sure what colleges accept GEDs, you would have to research individual colleges to check their requirements.

Honestly, your best bet would be to go to a community college, get your associates degree and then apply to a 4 year college (you can transfer your credits so all in all it still takes 4 years) and you dont need the SATs (which are a pain). This way is cheaper, community colleges are easier so your GPA will be higher, and you’re more likely to get into a better 4 college or university with an associate degree than a GED (which will make it easier to get into dental school). Also if you have a good GPA through community college then you may be able to get funding or a scholarsip for the 4 year college (and that way you dont have a ton of loans to deal with afterwards).

Goodluck!

Answer #3

Different colleges have different criteria for admission. Many schools will accept prospective students with a GED if they have high enough SAT or ACT scores.

Remember that admission to top schools is competitive so they may be choosy.

Your best bet is to list the schools you would like to attend and apply to them all. If none accept you than going to JC and doing well might get you in later.
