If I had it to do over again, I would have bought all clothes and gear (excluding the car seat) second hand, and asked only for money, gift cards, diapers, and after birth meals.

Don’t forget…baby wash (johnson & johnson’s make a lavender body wash that can sooth a baby before bed), alcohol wipes (for the umbilical cord) and Q-tips, Sleepers (they sell them with zipper fronts, way easier to change in the middle of the night than the ones with snaps) Vaseline (helps with taking baby’s temp.)

I bought a bottle warmer and ended up returning it because my baby hated warm formula…room temp water with her formula mix is all she wanted! And as for a wipe warmer…I thought I would get one, and then didn’t…all I did (and it may sound weird) was put the wipe in my cleavage! My milk came in and my chest was sooo hot. I put the wipe there to cool myself down and then realized I could use that to warm the wipes! LOL Now before I change her I stick the wipe there while I get the diaper ready and undo her little clothes, and it’s warm for the change!

If I think of anything else I’ll definitely let you know. I was right where you are and I know every little bit of advice helps. :)

If I could only have three more things (if I was EVER going to have another baby)

I would have; BABY MONITOR - THE MONITOR OF MONITORS!! the tommee tippee sensor 8 monitor - seriously, I checked my first baby breathing every 30 seconds until he was 2! with my second, didn’t have to check him half as much, because the mat under the mattress checked his movements for me!

A PROPER CARRYCOT STYLE PRAM… please I emplore you, do not buy your baby a ‘travel system’ wth the car seat built in. I see mothers leave their babies in them all the time! if a baby is in a car seat for just acouple of hours, their breathing and repiration reduces by approx 40%. in addition to the fact that it doesn’t give their little spines chance to stretch! if you really want a car seat pram, get the ‘jane’ powertrack with the matrix car seat - it’s a car seat that lays flat in the car (like a carry cot) attaches to the buggy like a car seat, but still flat lie a carrycot and when baby wakes up, you can just ‘sit baby up then. at least baby can be slightly more reclined, unlike those normal car seats which scrunch baby into a ball!

AND FINALLY…A BREAST FEEDING CUSHION! really they so so help!seem awkward at first, but if you’re planning on breastfeeding, then they really do come in handy, especially at about 3am when you’re struggling to keep your eyes open!

oh and the omega highchair, made by god, begins with ‘c’

good luck! have lots of fun at your shower and BREEEATH! LOL! x

oh - don’t get a; baby bath a diaper dispenser… (why did I just say diaper? I’m english???) oh, god there’s so many poop things! baby booties (babys feet should be allowed to evelop and grow!)

oh don’t but any many quantites of clothes, you’re gunna get so so many! what you were going to spend, buy vouchers instead! and I found bumbo chair really good for when baby got to about 4 months…

theres so many things.

You will need: Baby wipes, diapers, bottles, burp clothes, bibs, at least 7 onesies, baby blankets (about 5, they do like to spit up on them), bottle brush, if you’re breastfeeding then you should think about a pump, enough clothes for 2 weeks (again they spit up on everything), baby swing (babies like to take naps in them), car seat, stroller, crib, changing table, pack n’play (if you get one of these then you might not need a changing table), coats (depending on when you have the baby), hats, socks, pacifiers, wash cloths, baby bath tub (of course the kitchen sink works really well too), baby soap and shampoo, moisturizer (their skin gets really dry), I’m trying to think of more stuff, if I come up with anything else, I’ll put it on here.

You can do without the bottle warmers (you’re told not to use the microwave but it would work as long as you shake the bottle really good and let it sit for a little while after). If you’re going to use bottles though try not to warm them because then if you go somewhere and the baby always drinks it warm she’ll really not want it if you can’t warm it. Wipe warmers are nice ( I had one) but I really didn’t use it.

Oh, get a baby boppie, one of those u-shaped pillows they help the baby learn to sit up (and if you’re breastfeeding it helps to get the baby in the correct position), baby thermometer (this would be an anal one, that’s the temperature the doctor’s want to know), did I say stroller?, some kind of diaper pail (I had a diaper Genie and hated it), if you’re going to take out the trash everyday just use a normal trash can, baby monitor (my kids still have them in their rooms).

Any questions about anything, you can FunMail me at colethky. I had 3 kids in 3 years, so hopefully I’ll be able to help

Newborns will need onesies or one piece body suits. They are easy to remove and put one because of their strategically placed buttons. Cloth diapers are also important as these can save you tons of cash in the long run. Protect your baby from scratching his face by getting him some mittens. This will also keep his fingers warm. The same can be said for pajamas and socks. Babies get cold easily so the appropriate night time wear is also important. Eco friendly baby apparel like those made from http://www.tauramall.com are the ‘in’ nowadays. They are made from natural materials and are made without dyes or harmful chemicals. These are safe for a baby’s sensitive skin.
