Are Universities better than Community colleges?

Lately I’ve been wondering if Univerisites are better than Community colleges because universities have a higher standard of learning. I don’t want to go to a community college because I feel like I want to learn more and the professors in universities have a better teaching plan. So are universites better than Community colleges??

Honest to god, no one cares where your degree is from if you’re in the “real world” and you are qualified to do what you are trying to do. You can rarely get a bachelor’s degree from a community college, so unless you plan on doing associates degree work, you will have to eventually change it up. No one looks @ the community college except for the college you transfer to.

The caveat is that many community college credits don’t transfer to major 4 year universities because the curriculum differs too greatly. It’s not that it’s bad teaching, it’s just not what the university expects its students to learn, so you may wind up backtracking a bit to re-do some credit.

I would look at whether or not you feel comfortable in either surrounding. I was too broke to give up my insanely good job when college started, so I went to a community college for a semester and found that my peers weren’t what I needed to feel challenged. I found money elsewhere and transferred by the next semester and found the level I’m more comfortable with.

You can always go to lectures @ either institute without being charged and look at the syllabus for each class to see which pace better suits you.

And when it all boils down, they’re the same books, the teachers come from the same schools, it’s all about how much you put into it.

They have different purposes.

in my opinion, if you can take the same class at a community college that you could at university, you will probably get more out of it at teh community college, and it will cost less. The basic courses are under-emphasized at universities, whereas at community colleges, the basics are what they are all about.

There is little sense to taking the basics at a university rather than a community college.

Filletofspam basically nailed it. I’ve taken classes at both university and community colleges, the professors are not necessarily better at universities, but the exams and expectations seem to be higher (or it could just be I managed to get a lot of easy professors…). Transferring is actually pretty smart, your GPA is usually good because classes tend to be easier, and it’s a lot cheaper to do it that way

Answer #6

Of course a lot depends on the instructor. Often university classes are more comprehensive but sometimes community college classes are taught by lecturers who have dedicated their life to teaching and sometimes university courses are taught by overworked teaching assistants or by professors more interested in chasing research grants than teaching.

Community college classes are usually cheaper than them at a university and often you can stay with your folks to save living expenses. A lot of people take their core and intro classes at community college then transfer to a university for advanced classes in their major.
