What age would you recommend switching a toddler from a crib to a toddler bed?

My son is 2 years old and we were thinking about switching him to a toddler bed when the new baby comes because it seems pointless to buy a crib when we will just be getting rid of my sons soon anyways. Also, should i try and switch him before if hes ready so that hes not upset the baby has his bed?

Answer #1

I think he’s old enough now - I took my kids out of their cribs at 18 months - but make sure you get a bed rail and childproof the home…once they have the freedom to roam while mom and dad are still sleeping, they’re bound to exercise it.

Answer #2

My parents got this white knob cover that would keep me from getting out of my room at night. You might want to buy one of these because, like Colleen said, kids always want to roam around the house when their parents are asleep. It is a lot safer this way.

Answer #3

I think 2-3 years is an appropriate age to switch to a toddler bed.

Answer #4

My parents used those too. Child-proof door handle covers work very well when trying to keep a toddler or young child from going out side, or in rooms they shouldn’t be in.

Answer #5

I agree with 18 months also. And also a baby gate or something to keep them from roaming the house.

Answer #6

when your child tries to climb out of the crib is a good clue. But it can sure be a tough transition.

Answer #7

my parents used them also. i learned how to operate them at 5 tho:DD from watching my 3 older sisters

Answer #8

i think so too. and then get like a guard rail for the bed. that’s what my parents did

Answer #9

Yea, same. XD At five I was responsible enough not to accidentally kill myself with household objects though so I didn’t really need it. Hahaha. =D

Answer #10

my mum did that with me and my sister (I was two when she was born) and it worked fine, the only problem was that I was NOT happy that my crib had been taken away and given to Ashley. I would get out of my bed every night and try to climb in with Ashley. I did the whole regression thing when she was born, acting more like a baby to try to keep my parents attention!
