How to deal with a new girl in my life?

I need some advice on how to deal with a new girl in my life. I went in only wanting a friend because she still cared about her ex that cheated on her three times. Feeling between me and her starting to be more. It has been two months since we have been hanging out. It is great when we do hang out, I do not want to go any further until her ex is completely out of the picture. Her ex still comes around time to time filling her head with BS. He uses her little boy to get to her. I know she likes me, but its like she is afraid to let go of him (once again it has something to do with him using her son) and give me a chance. We did not talk for like two weeks, then on Valentine’s Day we started talking again. Out of nowhere that night she gave me a card and a stuffed animal. I really care about her and want her in my life, but I am not sure what to do. I can not go on trying to be more than a friend when he is still around. I know she wants to let go of him, but she says she is afraid. Any advice at all would help.

If he is the father of her son, then you cant expect her to completely erase him out of her life, thats cruel. If hes not the father of her son, then you need to talk to her about it.
