Does abuse cause autoimmune system diseases?

A friend of mine is claiming that they do because she was abused and she has a bunch…even though she said that her sister wasn’t abused and as some too. My cousin has lupus…and yeah, we’ve never heard of this and she wasn’t abused. Wondering if it’s a bunch of horse hockey. She’s claiming it was a real study though.

Answer #1

The exact cause of autoimmune disease hasn’t been discovered yet, but contributing causes are -Environmental toxins -Heredity or genetics -Viruses -Sunlight -Iodine -Stress and anxiety -Pregnancy -Poor diet -lack of exercise -lack of sleep -abuse of alcohol and use of tobacco. they can also weaken the immune system. so her being abused can cause that if she doesn’t get fed enough, if she doesn’t sleep well enough or if she gets stressed out to much because she’s abused then yeaah.

Answer #2

Abuse causing dieases? No. That’s ridiculous.

Answer #3

Well stress and anxiety can make you sick and abuse sufferers have a lot of stress and anxiety, so it can make you sick. As for autoimmune diseases. It is still unknown why people get them, so I don’t think she’ll have a clear answer on that.

Answer #4

Absolutely not. Abuse can cause mental disorders, but not physical illness or disease. Autoimmune diseases are usually genetic. For example, both my sisters have Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, which is an autoimmune disease where the body attacks the thyroid, sending it into overdrive. Even type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease, and one of my aunts has that.

Answer #5

The days of splitting the difference between ‘mental’ and ‘physical’ are long over. Things that harm us ‘mentally’ can hurt us ‘physically’.
