Can a 2001 Volkswagen Jetta alternator be checked by disconnecting the positive battery cable?

how can it…. you cant disconnect the positive unless you have first disconnected teh negative.

i dont know teh answer im just telling you this so you dont fry yourself to death.

just take it to garage and check its battery……..it might be solved

we figured out the problem. the radio has the short

Just take it to you local autoparts store, they have a machine to check your alternator, and they do it for FREE. Pretty much they hook it up to your vehicle while its running, then have you rev it at a certain RPM so they can see what the voltage output is. If its not outputting enough then your alternator is bad, but if it is then its time to get a new battery.
