What is wrong with my x-box 360?

Have you checked to see that the CD’s are clean without scratches? You can try using a laser lens cleaner for your CD’s before putting them in. If they are not damaged, than the optical drive is most likely damaged or faulty.
You can get a portable one to replace it. I had a similar problem with my x box and I had to replace the optical drive. Better to take it to a game store though and ask someone there.

Please please PLEASE don’t stand it straight up. You turn it into a game blender when you do that. Horizontal with a cooling fan is best.

im sorry but cooling fans do NOT work they go on intake fans, and act as a exhaust fan, creating a standstill in the air flow and potentially causing your xbox to get the RRoD and/or frequent overheating. your best bet is to find someone willing to upgrade your fans built in your xbox and making more vents… (If you have an old xbox) Microsoft set the fans in your xbox to run on low, setting it on high will prevent any RRoD or overheating. if you modify your xbox it WILL VOID your warranty. but trust me… its worth it.
