Will my hamster eat one of her babys??

My hamster just had babies 6 of them and one was born dead or died right after. I dont know how old the mother hamster is I got her at a pet store… Any way she ate the dead one a day later. But one is missing a leg and she treats him like the others. The babies are 5 days today and hes still alive.

shes only doing what comes naturally to her, try not to disturb her as she will eat the babies if she is stressed or scared.

I am sorry to hear that… However, that’s the way hams are. They eat their own kind or children often, if they are weaker.

So, in that case you need to insulate the mom immediately. And ask the person who works at the pet store for advice.

Your hamster will only eat the baby if she notices it’s unhealthy. If the baby is healthy - even if it has a leg missing - she won’t eat it. Try not to disturb her though because she might eat them if she feels threatend.

only if its: disturbd, sick or she has to many to feed
