Will my dog still get kennel cough?

Okay so heres my question, Ive got a 5 yr old female and since I volunteer at my shelter and I get her a kennel cough shot and Ive been assigned a foster puppy that came in from a cruelty case and the mom and all of the her (the pups) siblings have passed on :-( and shestoo young to be away from her mom so will my dog get kennel cough if shes already had her shot? And do you think that the young pup will need milk? She`s on soft food right now but I was just wondering?

lol phrannie, I luved that last part, and we actually fostered one lol kind of weird cus she was a quick learner only took her two no`s to actually get that you`re not suppossed to potty in the house so in a way it made our first foster and easy one but in ways we will be expecting that we will be quick to learn oherwise considering the fact that the puppy kept slamming her body against the cage lol I had to get her out and sooth her lol~I just wanted to say that

the word “kennel cough” is like the word “cold” …it can mean bordatella, parainfluenza, adnovirus, micoplasm bronchitas…etc etc etc. Vaccines help against some of them…for a time… but not all the things like micoplasm, or strep that can cause a cough… Bordatella can actually be caught from the vaccine… so, Your dog can catch something someday…so have pet insurance or money set aside for the vet / antibiotics. Stick close to your vet for advice on worming, coccedia or giardia treatment , and feeding your puppy.

No…the only way to go about housetraining is patience and vigilence…same with chewing…keeping her confined in the same room as you are (you might have to get some baby gates)…a crate when you can’t be with her (but one that either is just the right size for her, or that you can cut a piece of plywood to make a wall inside, to shorten up the size)…You don’t want her pottying inside the crate.

Make sure she has different textured toys of her own to play with…so when she has something she shouldn’t have, you can make a “trade” with her…you can even say “trade-me” as a command…she’ll learn.

For while tho, your new mantra is going to be…”I must watch the dog”…”I must watch the dog”…

The Bordatella vaccine should protect your dog from “kennel cough”. If you know for sure this puppy hasn’t been vaccinated (ie. it’s too young to be), just make sure your dog is vaccinated against everything: the 5-in-1, Bordatella, e.canis/heartworm prevention, coronavirus, etc. and also that your dog has been dewormed. I’ve fostered plenty of dogs and never had a problem with my dog’s health, since I keep them all up-to-date with everything.

As for the food, it really depends on the age of the puppy. If he/she can eat the soft food and has teeth, that’s perfectly fine, although I’d suggest dry food if they have teeth already. It’s better for them (less water filler) and is good for their teeth. If the puppy doesn’t have teeth yet and/or is under 5-6 weeks, I’d recommend bottlefeeding.

Good luck.
