wicca religion

I have always been intrested in this religion… today I looked up about it and I relised that everything I have always believed in or went by fell under the wiccan religion…I now believe that it is the perfect religion for me. What I’m asking— what are things I should know about wicca before considering 100% sure that this is the religion for me? I love the earth, I believe in good karma bad karma, magic, witches I actually believe I am a witch not for the powers and all that but with all the magic I believe in. I am all natural I do not take medication (unless life threatening) I have been medication free for over 2 years. I love the earth the universe, the sun and moon. so what more should I know before considering?

As long as you realise that “Wicca” is actually modern “religion”, though it is inspired (a bit) by heathen relgions,

“Wicca” was the Old English male form of “witch”, the female being “wicce”; their craft/art was “wiccecraeft” (“witchcraft”).

On the ‘Wiccan Rede’ you’ll hear about:

Rede is also from an Old English word and survives in Northumbrian and Scots English with the meaning s “counsel, advise” and “council” and “advice”. It was in Old Englsih “ræd, red” (advice) and rædan, redan (advise, explain, read) and was the element in such names as Rædwulf and Rædwald, Ælfred. As may be obvious the Standard English “read” (as in to read a book…etc…) is also from this root.

It´s ironic for a religion that is so anti-Germanic (unless it is Seax-Wica or one of the less “silly teenager” followers, of course) they use a lot of words from a Germanic culture/language…though most of the time they claim they are Gaelic derived (which is impossibly a lot of the time anyway as some letters cannot go together in Gaelic…not to mention we know the root of most of these words) rather than English.

If you do follow it don’t becomce on of the crowd, who I mentioned above…become the minority who know it was a modern religion created by Gardner and also know that much of what it’s borrowed isn’t Celtic/Gaelic (specifically Irish) but Germanic/Teutonic (specifically English) such as the name, Maypoles…etc…and some of it is even further afield such as Greco-Roman (Pan…etc…) or Egyptian (to those who worship Isis). It’s a hodge-podge.

I am a wiccan, I do not see anything against taking medications, if you do your research you will find that nearly all (if not all) medications are based on herbology, so I personally see modern medicines as being born of wiccan/pagan knowledge.

as far as your belief- follow it. I became much happier (and a better person) once I shed the cloak of organized religion (I.e. following christ). wicca allows for much more self expression, no suppression of that which makes us human like the larger religions, and overall - brings us closer to nature, and the way we are supposed to be. but just remember that wicca is a reflection of who you are, a representation of natural forces that are neither good or bad- they just are. so as long as you have “sound” intentions and remember what you send out will come back to you- you will be a balanced happy person.

you said it yourself- wicca falls in line with your beliefs, no consideration necessary, there are a lot of great books on the subject, wicca is all about studying nature and understanding her influence on us and everything around us. study, study, study. I am learning a lot about the healing properties of plants that are around us everyday, the world is truly fascinating. well hope you have made your decision- any more questions just give me a holler.

I agree completly with baldwinwolf. I’ve been wiccan and a witch for 8 years. Its a very personal religion. Everything in wicca has to be personalized to yourself like baldwinwolf said “”wicca is a reflection of who you are””. Its genneraly accepted that a person that wants to be wiccan study for a year and a day but thats a tradision. Are there any wiccans in your area. Do you wich to be a coven, or solitary? Triditional or Eclectic? you should stat a book of shadows to document, and log your experences. If you have any other questions funmail me and ill help as much as possable Blessed be

What baldwolf &jesterx sai(always beating me to the cut aye? XP…1~, lol) Just because you don’t meditate doesn’t mean you’re a natural either. You need to know about the moon phases, the belief(s) about the goddess & such. Actually to be a Wiccan you must believe in a God & Goddess from what I understand(one of the reasons why I’m just a witch), how to cast a magick circle, the proper use of candles, the 3 fold law, 10 fold law, what the consequences are for your actions(good & bad), what elements are what, what your strength is, your weakness & how to improve it, how to properly cast spells, how to use your magick, how to respound to things, banishing, dealing with things gone wrong, & much much more. It’s not all fun & games like seen on TV, this is real.

Fun mail me & I will give you more information.

The teacher I work with is a Wiccan. She is like yourself very natural. She believes in the purest and most natural elements in the earth, sun, moon, stars wind and fire. The belief in doing no harm to others is huge. The big misconception of Wiccans is that the magic can be used for bad things to bring harm to others, that’s not true, although there are some Wiccans that incorporate that theme. For the most part it is practical and environmentally safe
