Why does pain have to hurt?

Owww… I just sliced the top of my finger by accident and it killlsss!!! Why does pain have to hurt?! I know its to make you aware of the injury… but couldn’t it be a plesant or weird feeling instead of a horrible one?

Yeah, it sucks but there’s a good reason for it. Say you put your hand on a hot stove. If your nerves didn’t make it hurt you probably wouldn’t move your hand. You might as well say good-bye to your hand.

It’s your body way of telling you that what’s happening is not good. It’s self maintenance system. xD If the signal for pain was pleasurable, that would be like your body asking you to continue getting hurt. Some people feel enjoyment in pain. These are people who’s ‘fantasies’ primarily sexually related, involves the use of role play and predominantly involves the infliction of pain, both mental/emotional/motivational also called (psychological arousal) But their body is working properly inflicting pain, but their psychological profile is different then others’ people who respond to pain negatively.

I guess if it was a good feeling then someone would like it and end up chopping their arm of or something.. which isn’t good :)
