Why do people get into wars?

Why do people get into wars why make wepons that could kill people why do all of this?

Answer #1

—religion and human stupidity mostly, (the two go hand in hand)—

I would be careful about who you say that to. There are a number of highly intelligent, highly successful men who are actively religious. You might get fired, based on who you work for.

—A bash on religion? Saying that is ignorant, seeing as wars have obviously started as a result of such things —

No. Religion has been used to rally a majority to a cause. At one point, the majority of Americans(in fact, still are, technically) were Christian, so you bring in the righteous issue, and “God is with us”, and you got yourselves about two million instant recruits(WWI, anyone?). Fact is, all of the wars in since the dawn of time were over either resources, land, money(in the past couple of centuries, anyway, WWI and the european front of WWII both good examples), or occasionally, because you felt you or a friend was being trampled on(WWII, both Gulf Wars, Kosovo, Vietnam)(wanna bash me for not being in chronological order?). Even Israel’s clearing out of the land of Canaan was over land, since they obviously couldn’t go back to Egypt. Whether you are Christian or not will effect your views on this, but even those fights were over something simple: land and resources. Objectively speaking, you could say that religion was used to rally for a cause.

And people completely disregard the CIA reports that Saddam may have very well smuggled his armed WMDs into neighboring countries(no, not Iran. Iran and Iraq have hated each other for centuries). We found entire bunkers full of empty missiles. Now, just being the ignorant person I am, I would have certainly put my WMDs where no one could find them, especially since I know that a superpower against which I have no hope of defeating is coming. You want to bash so much that you don’t take a few seconds to think objectively and look over all of the facts, speculations, and perspectives.

Answer #2

Well that’s speculation that you’re talking there… No weapons were found and yet America declared war on Iraq on the basis of their existence. America found shells which were inactive and could not be used… Religion has obviously been a topic which has brought about wars in the past. You have looked beyond certain major points. Yes, wars have been about land in many cases, but what if they’re about ‘holy’ land? I’m not anti-religion by any means so I don’t know where on earth you’re getting that idea from (taking things out of context).

It isn’t bashing on anything… It’s just the facts ;).

Answer #3

Well there are many reasons for war… People from different countries/ cultures have different values and beliefs. Sometimes when those values and/ or beliefs are contradicted by other countries, they will feel a need to silence them and war is one way of doing that. A classic example of a kind of war which happens like that would be a religious war (as you know, there have been many wars which have come as a result of religious conflictions).

The competitive nature of humanity and the societies within it leads to war too. In the case of the Iraq war, there is a high chance that oil played a part. So when one country wants something that another country has, it can use war to get whatever that thing is. There are lots of reasons as to why countries go to war and although we may disagree with them, there are others who may not actually agree with ‘us’.

As for weapons… They have their uses. Without weapons, people would be too vulnerable and we do not live in an ideal world where everybody cooperates, etc. There will always be people who want to stir up trouble/ hurt others. So long as those people exist, we do need some weapons. As for nuclear bombs and other such things, those should be destroyed because they are unsafe on a global scale (by this I mean they don’t only affect your target; the radioactive dust spreads). It’s just one of those things. These are topics which are better to deal with than wonder about, lol.

Answer #4

religion and human stupidity mostly, (the two go hand in hand). Humans are just as primitive as animals in most respects.

Answer #5

A bash on religion? Saying that is ignorant, seeing as wars have obviously started as a result of such things :o. I never said wars wouldn’t happen anyway, haha.

As for the reference to oil, militants did sabotage oil pipelines a number of times if I recall because there was great suspicion from them in relation to America’s intentions. Where we are, we obviously don’t know exactly what the case is with that, but countries have gone to war over resources before; I merely gave a potential example (nothing to do with opinion). America went to war with Iraq to eliminate the threat of Iraq’s weapons of mass destruction allegedly. We didn’t see too many “drops” in that regard either ;), lol.

Answer #6

—(as you know, there have been many wars which have come as a result of religious conflictions)—

A bash on religion, eh? This would happen with or without religion. Man is a naturally competitive animal, and will do anything to remain on top and get what he wants. If it’s not religion, it’s something else.

—In the case of the Iraq war, there is a high chance that oil played a huge part.—

We have yet to see a drop of this oil, and it is doubtful we’ll see any in the foreseeable future. You are going off of opinion and unfounded speculation, not fact. I believe Bush once said to a colleague of his prior to the war that Saddam was “bad”, and he needed to be removed. It certainly sounds like something the man would do and say.

Answer #7

They want…what you got.

Answer #8

The simple answer is as soon as a new technology is created, guns, bombs, sword, etc, is created people use it as a weapon. One example is the atomic bomb Albert did not want it to be used as a weapon but it was anyway.

You can not have war without peace and can not have peace without war. For if you do not know what peace is how do you know what war is, and if you do not know what war is how do you know peace.
