Why the complaining of people of other faith celebrating "Christmas"?

Christmas was placed on a pagan festival to gain more converts, the original celebration was held on Jan 6th. Why are there so many people complaining about those who are not part of the Christian or biblical creed celebrating this festival when it’s not even a Christmas holiday? Why should they even care in the first place? It’s not directly effecting them unless they go out of their what to make an ordeal of it. It’s not (just the) celebration of Christ birth. It’s the Winter Solstice, rebirth of the sun god in pagan faiths(it’s also a celebration for Buddha so I recently heard). Why should it matter how it’s pronounces whether X-mas, Christmas, or something else(so what if someone doesn’t feel like saying Christ, it’s really not his birthday). And another, why are they claiming we’re the mockers when any study prove different. Why are people making such a big deal out of these small things when it’s really not a holiday of their faith? I’m just wondering. Don’t jump me.

Not that I mind, I actually enjoy some Christmas songs and Christmas movies. The thing is, all the things that are used to celebrate Christmas has nothing to do with Christ. The original holiday was pagan, he things used to celebrate it now were taken from pagan faiths. I just want to know why celibraters of Christmas was to jump down people’s throat for short typing or saying x-mas, And another, why are they claiming we’re the mockers when any study prove different. Why are people making such a big deal out of these small things when it’s really not a holiday of their faith? As I’ve stated in my question. It’s not that I don’t want to hear or see anything of their beliefs, I just don’t want them lashing out at me for mine

In the simplest terms I can put down…

Most people who believe in something that cannot be conclusively proven have to somehow trick themselves into dismissing the facts.

Some people ignore the facts that conflict with their beliefs and tell themselves that God did that on purpose to give us something to do (I.e. the argument/belief that God just put dinosaur bones in the ground for us to find for kicks).

Others decide that anything having to do with their faith or religion is quintessentially correct and any perceived mockery or misuse of said things (holidays, traditions, beliefs, symbols, rituals, etc) makes them feel like they have to viciously defend themselves and/or simply correct others (ie the snappy Merry Christmas reply jester mentioned in his response).

Hope this helps. Feel free to funmail me.

Jan 6th? That is the day Eastern Orthodox churches celebrate Christmas but the rest of Christendom adopted Dec 25 early on.

Saturnalia was celebrated for a full month starting the week before the solstice. Before Constantine made Christianity the official religion of the Roman empire Mithraism was the most influential religion. Remember that Mithra was said to have been born of a virgin on December 25th as savior of the world from the seed of God (Zarathustra in this case). Baby Mithra was tended to by shepherds who also brought gifts. Mithra was also called Sol Invictus and his celebration adopted many of the traditions of Saturnalia.

The first centuries of Christianity Christmas was not celebrated at all but Jesus’ death was celebrated on the vernal equinox as Easter which came from from the pagan celebration of fertility goddess Eastre, the Scandinavian goddess Ostra, and the Sumarian Istar.

I asked my home room teacher that same question before we went on Christmas break. he said that “In the politically correct world we have, its required to accept every religion and allow them to openly practice their beliefs, and not be interfered with by you or anybody else even mentioning the word Christian because it has no place in their religion”. Then he said “ Basically they don’t want to see, hear, or be aware of, teh Christian religion at all in real life, on the radio, or on tv” he’s my history teacher too, to until I can prove his statements wrong I have to assume he has a valid point, cause he’s not the only one I’ve asked that same question to, but he IS the only one that has ever given me anything more of an answer than “ just cause”

No I can’t say I do wonder zoekristine, I already know(no to sound shrude, apologies if it comes off so). I already know about the pagan holidays being converted, ect(I think I included one in my question). I’m just curious why people have to make such a fuss over how other people celebrate their Christmas, I mean, why should they even care? It’s not effecting them in any way.

Answer #6

Why are people making such a big deal out of these small things when it’s really not a holiday of their faith?

Because even though the US government doesn’t mandate the celebration or observance of any holiday, and even though several major Western holidays are a convergence of religious traditions, people still feel the need to tell everyone else that their religion is the “reason for the season”.

Answer #7

I know what your saying. Many times I’ve said happy holidays only to have a snappy “merry christmas” thrown back at me. Not every one that says merry christmas is mean about it and those people don’t bother me. If you want to say merry christmas go ahead, but if someone offers a happy holidays have the curtsy to return it without being rude about it. Merry christmas, happy passover, happy/merry yule, happy

Answer #8

It is a proven face the the Christmas traditions we know today come from Pagan roots. I’m not saying either religion is right or wrong, but every holiday we know today has Pagan roots. It was basically the first religion. Ever wonder where Christmas Trees, Easter Eggs, etc come from? Paganism!

Answer #9

I don’t mind, I really don’t care(not to come off as rude), it’s just when people start flaunting in other people’s face, claiming their way is the “right” way when I have a problem.
