Answer #1

They do not believe in Jesus as the Messiah so why would they celebrate his birth?

The belief in the Messiah, Jesus, the son of Mary, as a prophet and messenger is one of the basic elements of belief for every Muslim.

God said: “O people of the Scripture (Christians)! Do not commit excess in your religion or say about God except the truth. The Messiah, Jesus, the son of Mary, was but a messenger of God and His word which He directed to Mary and a soul (created at command) from Him) Quran(4, 171).

God also said:”And mention when the Angels said, O Mary, indeed God gives you good tidings of a word from Him, whose name will be the Messiah, Jesus, the son of Mary – distinguished in this world and the Hereafter and among those near (to God)” Quran(3,45)

We, Muslims, testify that we love him because he is loved and was chosen by God to be a prophet and messenger. He was blessed and dutiful to his mother.

The word Messiah is applied to Jesus, the son of Mary, who healed those were blind and lepers, and brought the dead to life by God’s leave.

Do muslims celebrate christmas?

In Islam, even the celebration of the birthday of the prophet Mohamed is considered as an innovation that people have invented. It is a part of faith to reject celebrations that have not been prescribed. The prophet Mohamed said:” whoever innovates anything in this matter of ours (I.e. Islam) that it is not part of it will have it rejected” (Saheeh Bukhari and Muslim). And he said:”Every innovation (in Islam religion) is a going astray” (Ahmed and Tirmidhi)

Answer #2

Generally no. They have their own holidays. They do not believe in Jesus as the Messiah so why would they celebrate his birth? However some Muslims who have assimilated to a place like the US may celebrate it to a degree because of the popular events surrounding the holiday. (Much like a lot of Jewish people will put up decorations and have a tree) It depends on the family. Hope that helps?
