Why is sucicide ilegal?

It doesn’t make any sense you can;t arrest the person if your there dead-

suicide is illegal because you are taking the action of killing a human being (even if its yours self it doesnt matter) and if you get caught like you shoot yourself in the head and dont die (yes it is possible) you will go to jail… weird I know.. there was one man who went to jail because he did everything to kill himself and failed like 5 times.

I’m guessing because people believe that there is a need for someone to do something, and if it is not illegal then law enforcement cannot intervene. So if they walked into a building and someone was trying to shoot themselves, no one could do anything about it. By making it illegal, someone can intervene… I doubt it is intended to actually put someone in jail. This way they are able to mandate some form of counseling or intervention…

I think its more so that Law Enforcement, when they’re called to the area of a suicide (not knowing that its a suicide) can be able to pin a ‘crime’ to someone.

since there’s no one else to arrest because of a suicide. they’ll be able to make somekind of Crime report.

my criminal investigations professor told us WHY and how Suicide is illegal. but to be quite honest, I just got lost after an hour of listening.

good point.. I have no idea haha. generally people think if someone’s suicidal, they’re in a horrible state of mind and won’t understand that a person can’t be arrested if they’re dead. so they won’t want to break the law and won’t wanna commit suicide? haha I have no clue. it could also contribute to assisted suicide, so people won’t do that either. just a guess though.

Suicide is not generally illegal. It varies state to state.
