Why is prostitition still illegal if stripping and porn aren't?

I am really curious as to why prostitution is illegal, when porn, which is the exact same thing, its just filmed, is. Wouldn’t it make it easier to control and help protect the men and women that do it from pimps and crazy johns? I mean even if you say that it is dangerous, having sex with strangers (one night stands) is just as dangerous. You still have the high chance of catching some STD or the other person turning out to be a crazy.

um no, stripping and pornography are actual careers. prostitution is very dangerous. porn stars are monitored and get tested monthly to ensure that they don’t have ANY std. if they have stds, they get fired from jobs. and strippers don’t have to sleep with ANYONE for their job so that has nothing to do with prostitution. porn stars are in a controlled environment where it is strictly business and it’s not like they have sex with random people off the street, they have sex with other qualified porn stars who are also clean and tested. prostitutes on the other hand are out on the streets at night waiting for a pervert to come and take advantage of them for rent money. it’s not an actual career, and you have no idea who you’re going to be sleeping with next so it’s not safe STD-wise. like I said, porn stars and strippers are in controlled safe environments when at their job. if that’s what you want your career to be then go ahead, it pays well, it’s safe, and it’s enjoyed by many people. LONG LIVE PORN STARS AND STRIPPERS!!!

It is the same thing… first off they don’t all get tested… ask John Holmes and many other porn stars who have died of AIDS. A prostitute is paid to have sex… which is illegal. A porn star is paid to have sex… why is that legal. It’s because there is revenue from porn… taxes, ect from the sale of videos, movies, toys, etc… There is no revenue from Prostitution… that is teh real reason its illegal. The same reason why weed is illegal but cigarettes (which have killed millions more than weed ever will) is not illegal. The govt collects taxes on cigarettes. If a porn star went out of the studio and was paid to have sex with man on tape… she would be arrested for prostitution… even though it’s the exact same thing that she did in the studio… It’s about the bottom line of revenue… And by the way… how to you be a “qualified” porn star? Is there a school… a degree… that suddenly makes it illegal to have sex for money? Watch Penn & Teller B.S. they have a great episode on prostitution… and even though I think it should still remain illegal for moral reasons… I agree with their argument for legalizing it on a constitutional basis.

yes stripping and porn are actual careers, because no one has made them illegal (making it the entire point of the question…) and porn stars are monitored and in a controlled environment because it is LEGAL… if you made prostitution legal, it would also be monitored (again the point of the question…) If prostitution was legal it would be a lot easier to stop pimps from taking advantage of these girls, the girls would be a lot safer, and maybe mandating condom usage would protect them from stds… Prostitution is illegal because a bunch of conservatives think that legalizing it would lead to some sort of moral degeneration (or something like that…), hopefully people get over it and realize it isnt the end of the world… (it is actually legal in reno, or somewhere around there…)

Porn is controlled and from what I hear, everyone is tested and pretty much safe although lets b real…u can still have the hiv virus dormant for years and it could show up later. But porn is an industry where its a job and just that. Prostitution is basicly any girl getting paid for sex and you really dont know where shes been before or if she was tested and shes not making a movie. Its just sex and money on the streets or in your car or a motel…they are not the same thing. Should it be legalized? I dont know. I mean, no matter what…people will cheat and whether you find it on the street or a club or the grocery store…u will still end up having sex w/someone whos background you know nothing about. And hey, people lie all the time about getting tested and being married and other things…so I wonder if prostitution was legalized..would it make so much difference?? I mean, if your happy at home sexually/intimately etc…then why would your man go on the street for it and actually pay for it! how stupid right?? Either way, illegal or legal…the man that wants a prostitute will find one and get it somehow. Funmail me if you like…:)

Answer #6

Porn and Stripping are still legal while prostitution is not simply because the abuse and degradation inherent in those legal sex industries are not as well known as that in prostitution. Communities and governments have the right to make laws to protect their people. Even the first amendment has been restricted in certain instances. The famous example of yelling “Fire!” in a crowded theatre comes to mind.

And while the legal arguments that prostitution should be legalized as a from of commerce between consenting adult is fine in theory, in reality there are almost always extenuating circumstances. In fact, a recent study of legal brothels in Nevada found many cases of women being pimped. Even Amsterdam, world famous for its liberal prostitution laws, is trying to close down much of it’s “Red Light” district because of the sex trafficking and other criminal activities connected to the sex industry.

Porn and stripping are just softer forms of prostitution and thus the negative aspects of those industries are neither as pronounced now understood. That’s why they are still legal.

Excuse me? I was just saying that her answer did answer the question, thats all…who cares if she stated her opinion about it being legal. This is a public question, I can reply when I want, just like anyone else can. Stop getting all rowdy about it, honestly… do you not realize how rude and immature your being about this? Take a break.

Answer #8

Come to canada!!! Its legalized hahaha we are so much worse then amsterdam, its just that nobody realizes it

Answer #9

Why don’t people read the whole question before answering? I wasn’t saying that those things should be illegal. Please read the WHOLE QUESTION before answering.

Answer #10

GOOD QUESTION!!! its because the government can’t make money off of protitutes like they can with stripping or porn, its just like why they are making online poker illegal its because they aren’t getting tax money for it!!!

Answer #11

I wasn’t only asking about stripping and porn, so get off it. I just wish that people would read more than the title before opening their mouths. The question qas not only about those two things. If you are an advisor, you shouldn’t be taking sides when I was not even talking to you.

Answer #12

it’s a good question. some countries have legalisied postitution. they have regular tests and are looked after just like in any other job. that way they are safe. I agree that porn is the same, but filmed. I also agree that one night stands are the same, but you don’t get paid. for some girls it is a career and they make a lot of money.

Answer #13

dude, big deal, it’s one sentence where I wrote it shouldn’t become illegal. get over it. you’re obviously missing the point of the rest of the paragraph. I explained how pornography and stripping are completely different from prostitution. if you want, I’ll edit out the sentence that apparently you’re so worked up over so you’ll quit whining. happy?

Answer #14

because when you’re a prostitute you can’t test your client for any diseases or viruses. In porn everybody is tested before making a movie and stripping requires no sexual contact. There are also plenty of girls out there being prostituted against their will. Even if prostitution were legalized there would always be pimps out there doing it illegaly just like there are pervs out there making illegal porn (some with kids!) and illegal strip clubs.

Answer #15

Prostitution is reputed to be one of the oldest trades known to mankind. It’s been around for ages. I’m not sure why it’s illegal. It is legal in the state of Nevada, outside the city limits of Las Vegas and Reno. It’s legal in other countries. I think a big part of illegality has much to do with the fact that our four fathers had a puritanical streak about them and we still hold on to some of this mentality even today.

I’m Not Sure Why It’s Illegal,

Michael
