Why is our perception of beauty so distorted?

In society today we look upon people who are big brested, blonde haired, and wearing tons of makeup as being portrayed as beautiful but when has our perception become so distored to the point of where we consider that beauty? Worst of all this is giving a negitive effect to young girls who think this is how they are supposed to be. Not only is this effecting their apperence but teaching them to value their looks more than intelligence. It gives men the right to demoralize girls and shows that we are not equal. Since when do we consider this beautiful and why?

I blame the media for a lot of it. The publishers make celebrities and celebrities look so perfect and young girls think those people look like that all the time. Young girls don’t understand airbrushing and all that stuff that gets done to the photos. They see these fake women all over the tv and magazines and they think they are supposed to look like that so they do anything in their power. And the guys think girls should look like that too, and some guys make fun of girls if they don’t look perfect like in magazines. People get made fun of for the stupidest things, its horrible. I don’t know… some kids just don’t get attention so they go to school and make fun of people and get attention because the mean kids think its cool. I remember in grade school there were all these bullies and by time high school ended, those were the kids that nobody liked. I believe karma takes care of the bullies, eventually they lose everything they have. I’m guilty for wanting to look good all the time, and I hate it. I think most girls are like that, even some don’t want to admit they care so much about their looks. Its hard not to care when theres all these gorgeous women getting flashed around everywhere. Its a cruel world and I honestly cant see it getting better. A lot of the bullies do happen to be men, which is insane. They think they are all big making fun of people, I guess it makes them feel good, I don’t know. Just because they aren’t perfect they feel the need to point out everyone elses imperfections too. The sad part is, there are so many real men that are caring in this world and its like they get over shadowed by all the assholes. Sad but true… the nice guys finish last, I believe that in all senses. Theres all these girls that feel they need to have big boobs and a big bum to get attention from guys, thinking about that disturbs me. Its like some girls want to be used as a sex symbol just to feel loved. Its crazy what extent some people will go to. This isn’t beautiful… I wish people could just be beautiful without having to be fake but it seems like that cant even happen anymore. How often do you see models with no make-up on tv and in magazines? NEVER! Which is pathetic. True beauty isn’t even recognized anymore.

and believe it or not over 50% of men still prefer brunettes! haha . but thats just what society does, it messes up your mind. but not everyone is like that. some people just see themselves getting knowere with the way they look and act, so they change themselves into this ridiculouse perception of beauty. but a lot of people know better

Theres no one source of this problem. Overall I would say American culture over the course of its existence has been oppressive to everyone but the wealthy and in power who are, with exceptions, males. With the country and media controlled by men, it is no wonder why women in the media are portrayed to what a select few think are beautiful. This isnt a real representation of what people actually look like or even how they act. And yes it does mess with everyones internalized thoughts of how they “should” look but its ridiculous how easily people are taught this. Learn to think for yourself!!!
