Why is it we sometimes take some things for granted?

Like for example, the advice we recieve on this website. Sometimes the things we read are not exactly what we want to read. Like if your talking about your troubles but the answers you recieve sometimes end up opposing your views on the situation. (like someone takes the side you don’t want them to) even though you don’t want to read it, most of the time the blunt truth is really all there is to it. Also a lot of the time people are not going to take your side because they won’t have the same opinion as you because they don’t think on the same wave length as you on account that events in their life have lead them to see things in a different way. But in the end, thats what this website is all about. Giving your thoughts and ideas to others weather they want to read it or not. But to that end, we sometimes end up tuning out the things we don’t want to know, even though it would benifit us greatly. I know, I sometimes do it myself even though I know its good advice. But I can’t help it. None of us can. Its like a human filter that we can’t control. It only allows us to see and hear what WE want.

Answer #1

you know I’ve seen questions like: im a man and I like gay porn…

then in the extended text section they turn round and say ‘but dont tell me im a homosexual’

and im like erm… and just leave the question and dont answer..

I think thats what colleen ment with the negative truth

Answer #2

Most people simply can’t handle a negative truth, so they choose to hear only the positive.

Pretty destructive behaviour if you ask me - you can’t fix something if you won’t accept that it’s broken.
