Why is it dangerous for a pregnant women to do x-rays on her teeth?

My mom is pregnant and today she went to clean her teeth and got shots of the x-rays for teeth and her friend made a big deal saying it was wrong and something can happen to the baby..is it true?

Answer #1

basically, radiation kills live cells. Think of radiation therapy, they use radiation to kill cancer cells and to shrink tumors. Radiation can cause mutations if it is in the beginning stages of pregnancy. The technologists should put a lead sheild on the woman–anytime radiation is used on a pregnant (or possibly pregnant) woman! It’s best to hold off on any unnecessary xray exposures until the baby is born.

Answer #2

Any radiation is bad for the unborn child. Can cause birth defects if it gets too much radiation.

Answer #3

what I know is that performing xray to pregnant women is not good idea as it involves like radiation or whatever :S but that’s for the chest area. im not so sure if its the same case as with the teeth.
