Why four disc?

Why does the first sims2 have four disc? It bothers me That there’s four. Why can’t there be just one?

there should actually be 2, the 1st disk to play with and the 2nd to download the features stuff/continue the installments, are you sure the 2 other disks are to dlc to the oringal sims 2?
