Why do people think us gothic people are depressed?

At my school, people just ignore the goths. I dressed in black jeans with chains today and my friends just acted like they usually would around me. Also, in art class we get lots of recognition because we’re so expressive and many of us draw anime and stuff.

I think it depends where you go that people think you’re depressed or not. In my school, we’re either ignored or (artistically) respected. Nobody thinks we’re depressed.

New age Gothic is pretty much just a huge trend to me. Most people just do it to grab some more attention, that ind of attention usually being “Oh, I’m depressed, pity me and my worthlessness.” So it’s what people get stereotyped as, no, it’s not true in all cases, but that’s what you’re going to get when you dress that way whether you intend to or not. I’ve known plenty of people (Including myself back in the day…) Who just normally wore black, as long as you’re happy with what you’re doing it shouldn’t bother you when others try to belittle you.

because black is a depressing colour, and goths wear all black it doesnt seem like the people are happy or cheerful also because most goths appear to be antisocial and you usually hear them talking about antisocial things or depressing music not all goths are like this obviosuly but it does appear that most of them seem depressed

the media. they always choose how to categorize people :(
