Why do people think that Christians are "perfect"?

I heard people saying that Christians think they are perfect. But I beg to differ. Christians are just doing what they believe and it isn’t wrong.

I haven’t seen a bunch of people, together, under one roof with more false pretences As when I were still attending church! Religious people, steeling each others belongings with no apparent reason (without any shortcomings) Being suspected of stealing donations supposed to be for the needy, Pastors having affairs with church member, Ministers banned because they had affairs and deacons being shoot at for having affairs at houses where they were supposed to collect for their church. Church members gossiping about other members clothing which apparently is not to taste. Men struggling and fighting each other off a higher position in church, resigns when they don’t get their ways. Ministers and Priest using their “paid” church hours to run their own private business. The same Pastors, Priest and Ministers whose children themselves are known to be the most untameable, who wasn’t teached moral standards or just decided to ignore it.

The list can go on and on! Point is this didn’t happen in one church, but in many all around me and if this is not an eye opener for anyone, it could well be that you live in the same delusional sphere than them!

Be any religion which you choose or an atheist like me, have TRUE moral standards, don’t be false to yourself and to people around you!

I don’t think they are perfect, if only they can practice what they preach and not use their apparent ability to pray for forgiveness to safeguard them after they have sinned! Not do unacceptable things in the first place is my motto!

It looks like Thex13thxChild may of just gave you you’re answer, or rather eternal life, either way, there’s your answer. People believe they claim to be superior because they believe to be, giving off obvious hints that they do, & not only that, but the do say it.

Answer #4

thats not true because I went to a catholic school last year and ya get taught about forgivenis alll the timeand why would there be reconciliation if we were perfect?? buht most christians I meet sure think that they are

Answer #5

Yes she was assuming… She was assuming to know what Jesus would say when sinners try to enter heaven.

quoting Jesus, geez.

Answer #6

Next the bad behavior of the some so-called Christians does not make Christianity false. I agree there are a lot of people who claim to be Christians and does all sorts of sins. That would only mean that those people are not following Christ properly because if they did they would not do anything that they are doing.

I love it when they claim that ‘any Christian who does bad is not really a Christian’.

Answer #7

But your religion obviously does not slake our hunger thus we move on to other things that is better for us. Life is not worth living if you’re living a lie. For people who do not believe, it would be exactly what they would be doing. Even if there were heaven & hell, if they truly didn’t believe, even if they did practice it, if they truly don’t believe, they’ld still be hell bound, so should people waste their lives.

We hear the stories all the time, a lot of us have even tried it, it obviously didn't work(I myself am an ex-Christian). The bible holds no truth to us, & yet constantly people shove it in our faces telling us to repent & believe. Wouldn't that seem like our religion is not good enough to be practiced? Especially when people donate to get other people to convert in foreign countries, raising money to try & get people to convert. Telling us we live a lie when there's no substantial evidence that their's is true, or telling us that we're heathens or followers of Satan(which how can we be if we don't believe in him) or rebelers(again, how can we rebel against what we don't believe). No one says they're perfect, but for someone to put down other's beliefs such as that, they must obviously deem themselves to be on higher standards, especially for some of them to call science or facts lies.
Answer #8

The first thing that everyone should understand is that no one is perfect. Christians are not perfect either.

Secondly not everyone who goes to a church or who is a pastor, or who is a priest is a Christian. A Christian is an individual who strives to follow Jesus Christ. Not all who claim to be Christians are Christians.

Next the bad behavior of the some so-called Christians does not make Christianity false. I agree there are a lot of people who claim to be Christians and does all sorts of sins. That would only mean that those people are not following Christ properly because if they did they would not do anything that they are doing.

God through His Word - the Bible tells us about those things that other people say cannot be known or does not exist. God have revealed himself. It is our duty to make known those things to everyone. To tell everyone what to expect after this life. It is everyone’s choice weather to believe or disbelieve the truth that is told to them. However weather one accepts it or not the truth does not change. Like if you jump off a tall building on to the road below the truth is you will land sooner or later regardless of what one believes about landing.

So when we tell people the Good News, we are doing our duty and of course we are not morally superior to you. No Christian will ever say that he is morally superior. However a true Christian will be morally superior to others which but will still claim otherwise. That is because the moral standards that now works in him is not his nature but Jesus lives in Him.

Answer #9

*Christians are just doing what they believe and it isn’t wrong.

True, they have the right to believe whatever they want. But it is wrong to tell the rest of us that we are going to hell. or to say that muslims should be wiped off the earth. or that homosexuals are an abomination and deserve to get AIDS. or that jews are the antichrist. or lying to make a point. or calling our president names. or assuming that an african american male is uneducated and living on welfare.

Let them believe what they want. But leave the rest of us alone. Being preached “AT” will never change a mind. Being told you are going to hell is not the way to express G-d’s love.

Why tell us we are going to hell for ours sins when the statements they make are worse than many sins because they are made in the name of G-d.

A racist, bigot, ignorant jerk who believes in Christ is still a racist, bigot, ignorant jerk.

Answer #10

well said utopia silverwings, you’ve no right to assume what God will say or do you’re only human, just like the rest of us. What you believe makes you no more or less special than the rest of us It’s your actions that determines how much more of a person you are.

Answer #11

silverwings was indeed assuming not quoting, I know the bible just as mush as you, perhaps even more, don’t test me there even if it were a quote, the bible was written by men thousands of years ago & there be no proof that it is truly a work of God. If it be a work of God, it’s not one God I’ld want to worship.

agreed with clobybearz I don’t even know why people contimue to debate this anymore, it’s moot. The answer was given, point proven, by eternal life they said ~However a true Christian will be morally superior to others which but will still claim otherwise~ There’s your answer.

Answer #12

I heard people saying that Christians think they are perfect.

I think that the implication is that Christians come across as ‘holier than thou’ people, and unless you’re with them, you’re a lowly dirty heathen who is going to smoulder in the flames of hell for all eternity. However, I tend to find that there are plenty of Christians who are more morally corrupt than I am, so I’m of no persuation that Christians, or any other religious group, is/are perfect.

Christians are just doing what they believe and it isn’t wrong.

Tell that to the countless people who have been slaughtered at the hands of the religious because ‘it’s what ‘God’ wanted’. How is that not wrong?

Answer #13

Christians are not perfect. No one is perfect except Christ himself. Christ taught us to love your neighbours, love your enemies, if you are slapped on one side, give the other side too, and also said that he desires mercy, not judgement.

Christians, of all people should be the last ones to judge. The list made by utopia up there, are they really christians? Or are they people who claim to be christians? Jesus never raised a sword to any of his enemies. He did not ignore even prostitutes. In fact, he said that those were the people that he wanted to reach out to. It is not the righteous who need saving.

Asking people to go to hell for their sins is judging people by itself. That is not for any human to do, especially true Christians. It is sad though, that what is written there is exactly what Christians are perceived to be.

Answer #14

It isnt the doing what they believe is right or wrong…

It’s the telling others how to live their lives… One can only do that if they claim to have the higher moral ground… As seen by the recent spat of republicans in office who were on a high horse and have been caught cheating, apparently ‘do as I say not as I do’ seems to be more of the way it is in reality…

Answer #15

The bible tells us to strive to be perfect, however, it offers us protection when we fail, if we repent of our sins. Jesus is the judge, and we are judged according to his word, If we judge ourselves, we won’t need to be judged.

Many of us take advantage, of the grace that Christ offers, some sin willingly, others unknowingly.

We all stand before the judgement seat of Christ, when that time comes, we will either stand before him, in innocence or we will stand before him with dirt all over us, and his answer will be, Well done, my good and faitful servant, enter into the joy I have prepared for you, or… and these are the saddest words of all,

DEPART FROM ME, YE WHO WORK INIQUITY, I NEVER KNEW YOU.

Answer #16

One of the things Jesus told us to do was to be witnesses (say what we’ve seen and learned about Him). Unfortunately, speaking that Truth has not always been done in love, and that is taken as trying to tell others how to live. When what we’re really trying to do is share the best thing that ever happened to us, and introduce people to our BEST FRIEND and SAVIOR. Another reason it can come across as pushy, is that we understand the stakes: your eternity in Heaven or he11 we really want those we love with us for eternity. We are not perfect, just hungry kids letting others where to find bread.

Answer #17

Some people use there religion to hide behind, they see it as something that makes it better then everyone else and believe it is what defines them as a person rather then their other qualities or personality, making them different from other people, isolating them self from mainstream society. This is why Christians are sometime seen as being pretentious.

Answer #18

or maybe the saddest words will be…

you said WHAT in my name…depart from me, you never understood me.

Answer #19

no one’s perfect.

Answer #20

Nobody is perfect. If any of us were, nthen Christ wouldn’t have had to die on the cross to save mankind from sin.

Answer #21

hourglassoflosttime, silverwings was just quoting Jesus. She was not assuming anything.

Answer #22

No Christian will ever say that he is morally superior. However a true Christian will be morally superior to others which but will still claim otherwise.

Nice paradox…
