Why cant I open bios ?

I had a computer given to me without the password. It had been forgotten. I want to use the windows password retrieval tool but I cant get bios to open. This computer has a password on both admin and user account

opening the bios has nothing to do with windows operating system… reinstalling windows will not clear the bios password.

you will have a jumper on the mobo somewhere, normally near the bottom, around the battery that needs to be shorted..

you will see 1 exposed pin with the 2 next to it covered by a jumper… take the jumper off and put it over the 1 exposed and the 1 next to that and this will clear the bios and allow you to get in there

but you might need the mobo manual to find the cmos jumper

or just take the battery out, but sometimes taking the battery out wont clear passwords…

and make sure all power is off and that the power cord is not attatched to the psu

Just some things to try first if you haven’t already: try pressing the F2 key repeatedly when starting to enter the BIOS. Also try removing the power supply and the battery, then replacing the battery.

If that doesn’t work maybe try reinstalling Windows.
