why can we be considered an adult at 17 but no rights till 18

In Texas You are not ‘considered’ an adult 17. At 17 you will be tried as an adult if you commit a crime, but that means nothing other than you’ll be tried as an adult if you commit a crime—it does not mean that you have any of the rights of an adult. Now why is it that they will try you as an adult but yet no adult rights???

17 must be the “age of consent”…here in Montana, it is 16…but legally, a person becomes an ADULT at 18…

A 17 year old can be emancipated in Texas, but you have to get court approval. At that point, you have the same rights as an 18 year old.

You can LEGALLY move out at 17, I did. The only condition is you have to let your parents know where your living.
