Why 44 house republicans want to eliminate income taxes?

The “replacement” is a tax on the poor & middle class for the income tax. Think about it: poor people don’t save money, they spend it all. So does the bulk of the middle class. So when you replace the income tax (which the rich pay more than poor) with a national sales tax, you’re giving more money to rich people and still taxing the poor at the same rate…potentially taxing the working poor FAR more as a result, because many of them don’t pay income taxes if their earnings are low enough.

Is this the kind of philosophy the get rich party stands for? I’m disgusted.

Answer #1

Welcome to America…where the rich get richer and the poor get poorer.

Answer #2

Well this will give lower income people more money as well. If they are going to spend it then that is there problem. This would give the poor hundreds of dollars more a month. If they spend it then they have themselves to blame for the rich getting richer.

Answer #3

It depends on how it’s implemented. If basic necessities are exempt, then the poor would benefit from replacing income tax with sales tax, as they would no longer pay any taxes at all.

Without income tax, there is pressure to keep government small. The massive government we have today that legislates every aspect of our lives would not be possible without an income tax.

Answer #4

Because those 44 house representatives would be made exempt from the tax, essentially. What better way to better ones circumstances than to promote the solution as a public service?

People need to take my history professor’s American History classes. He really drills the latter half of the 19th century into our heads. Made me realize how much Americans like repetitiveness.
