Who said..."the Government of the United States of America is not,
“…the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion”
The concepts all came from the bible
Really? Where in the Bible does it talk about separate legislative, executive, and judicial branches? Because that came from Montesquieu.
How about a system of checks and balances? That was in the Roman constitution, but not the Bible.
Freedom of the press? Due process of law? Where in the Bible are these concepts?
The Bible had minimal, if any, influence over the U.S. Constitution.
The founders of the Constitution, had come out from under legalistic rule, by the Church of England, and they knew the bible well enough to know that it offers freedom from tyranny, they established this nation so that freedom will reign.
If you want to worship a tree… that is your perogative. And you are protected under our constitution.
The main intent was to establish a free people, who could govern themselves.
In Freedom and peace.
The concepts all came from the bible, and were established prayerfully.
This nation was not founded on legalism…
that is what it had come out from under…
It was founded upon freedom.
OH, but, it is… and all you have to do is to compare it to the teaching of the bible, and you will see where it came from.
Treaty of Tripoli. Article 11 of the Constitution. thanks for bringing that up. I forgot all about it
That’s the opening line of Article II of the Treaty of Tripoli.
I didn’t locate that exact quote, but Thomas Jefferson - the author of the Declaration of Independence as well as much of the Constitution - frequently denied that Christianity was to be included as a presumptive part of the Constitution.
“Christianity neither is, nor ever was, a part of the common law.” - Whether Christianity is Part of the Common Law (1764). Published in The Works of Thomas Jefferson in Twelve Volumes
And in a similar vein, when the Virginia assembly was writing the Virginia Act for Religious Freedom, an amendment was proposed to insert “Jesus Christ, the holy author of our religion;” , the insertion was rejected by the great majority, in proof that they meant to comprehend, within the mantle of its protection, the Jew and the Gentile, the Christian and Mohammedan, the Hindoo and Infidel of every denomination.” - [Jefferson’s] Autobiography (1821), in reference to the Virginia Act for Religious Freedom.
By the way, Jefferson did declare himself to be Christian.
I hope this helped. Good Luck!!
I did. ;)
