Who is magnet schools meant for?

my cousin said he goes to a magnet high school. hes a junior, and I was unsure about what it was exactly. I didnt get the chance to ask, so I wanted to really know what it really was. is it only for really, really smart people? or for everyone?

I was supposed to go to a magnant school because my isat grades wer awesome but I failed the test anyway I was smart but the magnet school iz way to smart for me

I went to a magnet school when I lived in new york, I’m not sure what it means either lol but they are public schools.
