Who got recipe for "chocolate concrete" one from school?

I have tried to get recipe for “Chocolate Concrete” who remembers this from school, I cannot find it anywhere, sooo lovely..

Answer #1

10oz plain flour

2oz Cocoa Powder 8oz Margarine (Good old fashioned stalk is best - NOT butter)

4oz granulated sugar

4oz Light BROWN sugar

1 Egg beaten

Melt the margarine and sugar together in a pan and mix well. Melt over a low heat and do not let the mixture boil. The mixture will turn into a buttery syrup. Make sure there are no crystals of sugar visible.

Put all the dry ingredients in a bowl (flour and cocoa) and pour in the melted mixture. Mix well - you should have a stiff batter. Try not to beat any air into the mixture - you do not want it to rise. Chocolate concrete is more like a biscuit than a cake.

Finally mix in the egg and mix well until all the ingredients are well mixed together.

Pour the mixture into a greased baking tin and pat down to create a 1 and a half inch thick layer.

Sprinkle a little extra sugar over the top.

Place in the middle shelf of an oven at 150 C for 20 minutes.

Take the concrete out of the oven and score into pieces with a wet knife. Leave the concrete to cool - it will become harder as it cools.

Serve with custard … or for an extra authentic experience add a drop of red colouring to the custard to make it pink, alternatively add a drop of peppermint essence for a minty custard. Ocassionally we were given the extra special treat of chocolate custard with our concrete - to make chocolate custard add 2 teaspoons of cocoa powder or a bar of grated milk chocolate to the warmed custard and stir well.
