Who is "Whistler" in vampire myth?

I don’t know whether it’s jsut coincidence but I seem to ocme across a character called “Whistler” in a lot of vampire filoms and books I read. He acts as an assistant to the good vampires, nomrally a lone vampire male actually, and helps guide him. I saw the character appear in Buffy, Blade ect.. just a theem or does it come from somewhere?
