Whiskey for teething

I have been advised by many people to put whisky/rum on your babies gums when they are teething so that it will take the pain away and make it numb. Is this true, does it really work and is it ok to do this???

Ok I havent done this yet because I am really not sure about it. Im not sure if it can cause harm to the baby. and I would never do it if I wasnt sure so I dont need any lectures I am simply asking what yall think of this and if it is harmful. I would think it would be because its alchohol but people say its sucha little amount that it doesnt hurt them . Help

well I have a nephew that had to be rushed to ER last night because his grandmother gave him whiskey for his teeth and made him really really sick so I recommend not trying this. This is a bad way to bring your son or daughter into the ER it will make you look like bad parents!!!

alright well thanks everyone I definetly will not be trying this. so thanks for your help everyone.

Just think…what if the taste made your child nauseated and he threw up all over himself. Then he would feel miserable and you would feel horrible.

Answer #4

use baby tylenol, or baby orajel do not use whiskey your doctor will probly tell you the same

Answer #5

use a teething ring

Answer #6

don’t do it. people did that back before they knew that it can cause harm and different babies will react differently. humphreys works just fine for my son.

I’d keep a bottle of whiskey and a bottle of disinfectant around. Like mouth wash maybe. Use the disinfectant when guests are around so they don’t freak out. Use the whiskey when they aren’t. The whiskey is much safer than the disinfectant and the amount of alcohol is almost nothing. You can wipe off the excess after applying it if your’e really paranoid. I mean, seriously, it’s not even a tiny spoonful. And if I tell you what’s in the disinfectant then everyone will really freak out, especially compared to whiskey.

But, ya, people get crazy dumb when they’re afraid. If you mention anything bad at all, it doesn’t matter how little it is or what the alternatives are, they’ll just flip out.

Answer #8

are you crazy to even think about that??? Never ever do that those people are old fashioned and stupid…people who say that kind of stuff are people like my grandmother. that was a remedy back then but they have learned over time not to do that because you will make your baby drunk from even a little whiskey…that could cause serious problems…you could even kill them…stick with orajel…rub their gums with your finger…give them teethers but no whiskey or you will have to bring your baby to the ER.

Answer #9

Yeah, my mom used to do that when I was teething.

It’s such a small amount, it doesn’t hurt or otherwise effect the baby. But don’t keep re-applying it all the time, or put too much. And don’t use it if your baby’s under a year old. Mainly use common sense.

Answer #10

yeah I wouldnt do that because alchohol messes up your brain everytime you consume it so I cant imagine what it does to a babies brain!

Answer #11

I recommend baby orajel instead or let the baby chew on the green part of a scalion onion supposedly it helps the teeth cut thru the gum…hope this helps

Answer #12
