Where can I find out what comic books are worth?

My mom has 7 really big boxes of comic books that she wants to sell. I spent 4 days going through them, cataloging them, and then typing them all on her computer so she’d know what she has. They were my step dad’s books and he died in May. He asked me before he died to help her sell them so she would have some extra money. There are 1200+ comic books.

Can anyone steer me in the right direction? I need someone who buys them, or collects them because she needs the best price possible. But she can’t sell them until she knows what each one is worth, or at least what the whole collection together would be worth.

Are there any free online comic book guides? I haven’t found anywhere so far that I can look them up. It’s going to take forever to look them all up. I don’t care if I never see another comic book again. lol. :)

I’m not advertising them here, I just need some advice on how to help her with this.

Thanks!

u can go to a book store and look at a comic grading guide that is not out of date. dont go by prices on ebay cause they go for cheaper than what you can actually get for them. you can also go to local dealers for advice

Answer #2

you can find out more information at COMICCOLLECTORLIVE.COM or

COMICPRICEGUIDE.COM

one of those sights should be able to get you in the right direction.

Kimmie, one more small thing - Ebay has a nice feature where you can “watch” an item – comes in handy if you’re thinking of going the eBay way - for a month or so, keep an eye on what things are priced at and what they inevitably sell for and you might get a better idea of the market - what goes fast, etc..

Thanks for the info. Yes, they are all in protective sleeves. He took really good care of them. They were actually his son’s comic books who died a long time ago.

A free guide might be out of date or inaccurate. There are guides at a local comic shop for 4 or 5 dollars (might be a few more now, I haven’t bought one myself in 10+ years).

You can also shop around on ebay to see the list prices of various ones if they have a comparable comic to the one you have.

Also, if the books aren’t in plastic sleeves, then get some of those to help protect them while you are organizing them & labeling them price wise, etc.

Answer #6

Yeah, that is a good feature, I’ll keep that in mind.

Answer #7

Great ideas everyone…thanks!

Answer #8

When you find out how much they are worth, it might be a good idea to get people to bid on them on Ebay…just an idea
