How come comic books have such a bad reputation?

Hi! This is my first question im asking on funadvice. I’ve been a comic book fan since the 4th grade (im in 11th now) and I when some people (nongeeks/popular) find out that I collect them and read them they they just call me a nerd, say why waste your money or laugh. Its really no big deal…comic books are just a form of entertainment and art just like movies, regular books and music. And movies, regular books and music in general dont have a bad rep. So my question is, why do some people label comic books as a bad thing? I mean 9 times out of 10 they like the big blockbuster movie adaptations of comic books (spiderman, x-men, iron man, sin city and a ton of other movies they made) so what is wrong with liking the original material?

There’s nothing wrong with liking the original material!

I find the problem is, most people lack the patience to actually read graphic novels/comics anymore. They’d rather zone out and watch the movie because it takes less effort. They will never truly appreciate the artwork of the originals. which is sad. :(

I LOVE THE COMIC BOOK CHARACTERS! TDK was awesome and some people just don’t get it I don’t think they have a bad rep.
