Where are there caravan/camping sites for 16/17 yo in scotland?

Camp site owners are generally afraid of groups of young people. They think you will drink, make noise and disturb other folks. Maybe you can ask your parents to make the reservations and think of something that will qualify you as anything else than a horde of troublemakers.

When I went camping with my peer group, we told them we’re an ornithology club and we come to observe sea birds.

Wherever you want to go, tell them

• you come to relax or
• you come to do some research-project work for the environment or
• you come to do walking / bicycling and will be away most of the time
• you will NOT drink alcohol
• you will NOT leave waste anywhere
• you will NOT be loud
• you will NOT disturb other campers
• you are a group of rather shy kids

I was in Big Sands (Holiday Sands camp site) near Gairloch in West Scotland when I was 17… OK, 11 years ago now. Big grass area with dunes and a sand beach just beyond the dunes. Sanitary facilities are kinda ancient but clean. It’s completely off in the void. No action. No amusement sites. Great place to just lay on the beach, build sandcastles and relax.

I also was at ‘Grannies Heilean Hame holiday park’ near Dornoch Firth in east Scotland. But we were only two people there. Better san facilities than big Sands. Also a beach. I found the site to be quite inexpensive.

I assume you want to go in summer? Take insect repellant. Plenty of it. They have midgies up there. Horrible beasts. Small as fruit flies but carnivore. And they come in large clouds.
