When should you get a breast examination?

I’m asking because I have very sore breasts that hurt a lot and are sometimes itchy. They cause me a lot of pain and I’ve heard that health-problems in breasts are more common in girls with a D-cup or larger (I’m 34-DD). The thing is, I am only 14 and I don’t know if I should worry about these things. I’ve tried to do a self-examination, but everything feels lumpy and I have no idea what to look for.

It’s good that you are asking for help!

If there is a history of breast cancer in your family you should start thinking about breast exams fairly early on. The next time you go in for a checkup, ask your doctor what he/she recommends!

As for the soreness and itchiness… I’m sorry you’re miserable. I don’t know what is going on- but if it is really bad, you can always talk to a doctor about that too. Or your mom? or a school nurse, even?

It might be that you need to wear a different kind of bra?
