When divorce seems impossible

My best friend has three children and a husband. She is 40. He is almost 60 and the kids are 12, 10 and 8. The parents were making loads of money but haven’t for a few years and there is no way for her to serve papers to him without the fear that he’ll just tell her to get out because the house is in his name. Though their debt is far in excess of any of their assets. So her problem is the fear of having no money to leave or to be told to get out if she wants to end the marriage. The children have been raised entirely by her though the father is nice to them. Is there any advice for a woman who feels she cannot escape?

Thank you,

Robin

She’ll need to go speak to a lawyer or some sort of guidance counselor to find out what her options is and to help her to actually build up some courage to leave him.

Doesn’t she have any family that she can go to after the divorce? At least until she is on her feet.
