What's the difference between a taper and a gauge?

A gauge is a measurement & a car part. A taper is the spiky things that idiots are not suppose to wear in their ears but do anyways, you use them to stretch your lobes.

A gauges are how ear jewlery is defined in size. The average ear piercing is usually a 20 or 18g. Tapers go by the ending size of it. Meaning the taper starts off at a smaller size and works it’s way to the advertised size.

You can use both. If you are going to stretch your ears please do the “stupid” thing stated above and do a slow tapering on your ears. This allows you to slide the taper up each day without causing tearing or infection. Fast tapering is when someone puts a lubricant on the taper and jams it through your ear causing bleeding, infection, and tearing at most. Some people get away with just sore ears but I do not reccomend doing it the fast way.

So.. For My First Time Using A Taper, I Should Use A A 14 Gauge Taper & Just Slide It Through Slowly? & Do People Gauge Their Own Ears?

your ears are probably pierced at a 20g. use the taper and slide it through slowly after a hot, steamy shower, it helps your lobes stretch. i would wait 2 wks to a month to try your next gauge. a good way to tell if your ear is ready is to pull on the gauge you have in, and if it gives w/o any pain at all, it is probably okay to try.
