What wrong with a black president?

So this has been bothering me since the election. I knew that there were going to be problems after the election as far as disappointment but I didnt know that it was going to be to the extent that it was at my school. I go to a predominately white school and there are literally only 7 black girls (I go to an all girl school) there were comments made that were very offensive such as Obama is a muslim terrorist and someone said “at least hes not ‘actually’ black” and a few more that really hurt me. People told me that I only voted for him because he was black and thats it…ok maybe I did vote for him because he is black…but I am for all of his policies too except for the abortion one, I love the health care, the taxes, the troops are comin home, education, I mean gas prices have completely PLUMMETED, what else could you ask for? But then I was Pre-criticized because I was voting for him only because he was black (which is not true) when on the other hand there were others voting against him for the VERY EXACT same reason… because he is black.

But besides all that, my real question is why do people feel he is not qualified…and be honest… if it is because he is black say that…but could you please then explain why that is a problem?

I mean he is an EXTREMEly intelligent man with all the qualifications necessary, and he is like the TRUE symbol of the melting pot that we call America… he is alll different types of races all that martin Luther king, Rosa parks and Malcolm x worked for cannot be held in vain anymore… it is all validated now. All that African Americans have worked for in the past is becoming a reality, this is out opportunity and I feel like its being put down because people cant see past color. I feel that now I can say the Pledge of Alligence with pride now because when it was made black people were slaves, it wasnt made for black people. but now I can say it and mean it I now feel like I am truly a part of this nation.

This should be a Turning point for EVERYONE not just black people but I feel that this is a new nation like this election is a historical event that should bring us together but I feel that people aren’t embracing what is now fact..we have a black president accept it. what is the big problem? maybe im totally missing it. so could someone please explain what the problem is?

No evidence that he was voted for on race? What do you call harlem voters, or the reason obama was elected on you tube?

Answer #2

Nothing at all wrong with a black President - Color irrelevent - as Dr King said he should be judged by ‘the content of his Character’ - on that yardstick we don’t know the answer yet - there are a lot of questions out there - none should be blindly followed - ‘Change’ for America was promised, now we’ll see what that means in the next 4 years - I hope it’s positive because if successful, America’s successful…Merry Christmas !!

YOUR RIGHT OBAMA IS A VERY INTELLIGENT MAN AND HAS GREAT VIEWS AND I BELIEVE THAT HE WILL DO GOOD THINGS FOR OUR COUNTRY. people WHO want to RUN HIM DOWN BECAUSE THE COLOR OF HIS SKIN HAVE NO BRAINS IN THEIR HEADS AT ALL. SO WHAT JUST BECAUSE SENATOR JON MCCAIN WAS WHITE THAT WOULD MAKE HIM A BETTER PRESIDENT? I THINK NOT. THOSE people THAT ARE SAYING HORRIBLE THINGS ABOUT OBAMA PROBABLY DIDNT LISTEN TO ANY OF HIS CAMPAINS TO KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT HIM. THATS RACIST. OUR COUNTRY IS BEYOND RACISM NOW. OBVIOUSLY THERE WERE ENOUGH VOTES FROM OUR FELLOW INTELLIGENT AMERICANS TO PUT HIM IN OFFICE!!!

Answer #4

“the same applies for a lot of people voting for him simply because he is black.”

There is no evidence this happened, even on a small scale. I would say many people got involved and were motivated because the first viable african american was on the ticket. But it is not only because he was black. If that were true, he would have been polling in the 90s from the first minute he announced his candidacy. He was not. In fact most african americans did not really support him initially. And that was not because he was black. The reason they didn’t support him was because he WAS black. They thought no black candidiate would be truly viable and they supported Clinton initially. It wasn’t until Obama won Iowa that his support among blacks really began to coalesce.

It is a historical event. Don’t let the racist attitudes of your fellow students take away from your enjoyment of it. Millions of people around the planet are celebrating this.

Obama is obviously qualified to hold the presidency. That’s a non-issue. A person can oppose his policies on merit, but if that person is too lazy or stupid to do that, all that’s left is to make up stories about his past or attack his ethnicity.

As for the Muslim terrorist comment, ask these girls where they heard that. I’m willing to be it was either from their parents or some forwarded email. Call them out on it.

My only real issue with your post is regarding falling gas prices. This really doesn’t have anything to do with Obama’s election. It’s actually the result of the plummeting global economy. It’s a speculative bubble, and it burst.

obama is no different than any other politician. he lies, covers up etc etc. and yes he is a very, very intelligent man. gas prices are going down? you do realise that has nothin to do with obama right? hes not even president yet. while a lot of people were blinded into not voting for him, the same applies for a lot of people voting for him simply because he is black. it is a huge step for america though in 1 way. (it being one of the most notoriously racist countries in the western world). but at the same time you were blinded. im sorry but if you actually research obamas history you ll see he is no hero, as time will tell. hes just the same as any other a**hole politician and if you were going to vote democrat, you shouldve voted ron paul. he was for america, not for the corporations and banks. ( who funded obamas campaign)

and about what they said about him being a terrorist is just simply a**holes being cruel. im sorry you had to endure that but there will no doubt be many others who will say similar things

There is nothing wrong with a black president.

I’m a Republican. All the policies that Obama professed during his candadicy were opposite to my beliefs/opinions (I consider myself a moderate republican). So that is why I voted against him.

However, I wasn’t worried about him getting elected. I knew that most of the policies he was professing would end up being tempered by reality. The reality of what it’s really all about that a President/President elect discovers when he is exposed to the realities of the world that he becomes exposed to when he is made privy to classified information that we never know about.

Although Obama was lacking in experience (foreign policy and economics), he has demonstrated great intelligence in his appointments and in his “backsliding” on some of the things he wanted to accomplish because of the newfound knowledge he is being exposed to.

Because he does seem to be exceedingly intelligent, I think he will make good decisions and may end up being one of the greater presidents.

As to your problems with your schoolmates, ignore them. They are ignorant – not by choice but because of their lack of experience due to their youth. Also, because of their lack of maturity, they will continue to bait you and try to get the best of you. Let it pass over you. YOU know your worth and it is not dependent upon them or their approval.
