What should I do about my hip piercing?

I got my 1st surface hip piercing last week and everything was going well. I’m cleaning it as I should be.. I’m using sea salt mixed with warm well-filtered water and soak it for 15 minutes a few times daily.. , I’m always washing my hands with anti-bacterial soap to avoid infection, I cover the piercing with vaseline when I get in the shower so I wont get bacteria in it,

This is the … 6th day with the piercing in it and so far, its been going great but the last few hours, it hurts when I move certain ways, if anything touches it, it hurts even worse than it had before (cause it obviously hurts if something hits it) .. the pain is like a bad sting around the area where the balls are, where the curved bar enters the skin on both ends.. Its like if you have an open cut that you don’t feel but someone sticks it with a toothpick or something… and its really red around each ball of the curved bar.. is there something I should do or is it completely normal?

I would prefer advice from a piercer or someone with personal experience =)

I actually went to my piercer today and he said they look like they’re doing good, they dont hurt anymore either.. weird it was just a few hours I found it very sensitive. and he also said I’m over-cleaning it, lol apparently I’m using too much salt, I’m supposed to be using half a tsp with one cup of warm water and only soak it for 5 minutes, I’ve been using 2 tsp in a cup and been soaking it for 15 minutes. I was glad to hear that; it’s boring to sit down holding a shot glass with salt water over your piercing for 15 minutes straight. lol Anyway thanks

it sounds normal at one week, your surface piercing is no were near healed yet they take on average 3 months to heal, but usually more if the pain gets too unbearable though and/or notice any strage odours or colours then is the tme to go back to the piercer or see a doctor and remember that surface piercings arnt permanent they will grow out continue to clean with the sea salt and warm water but remember not to overclean it (because its sounds like thats what your doing) cleaning it too much can prolong its healing time, so it wont get a chance to heal if yur always cleaning/touching the area and aggrivating it you really only need to clean it once a day and it also gets cleaned when you have a shower
