Do not promise anything, but say that if everything goes well he will find you when comes back. Mainly do not promise absolute allegiance.

Well, its a chance that you take. People change, and if its meant to be it will last forever. The good thing here is, its not like you wont see him for 3 yrs. They do have time off where they can come home and visit! Quite a few of my guy friends are in the marines. After they are done with basic training, and get settled in, they can have a computer. Thats how i stay in contact with them everyday. You really shouldnt worry about this until the time comes!

You’re right, it’s a long time to wait. It’s a little bit of a gamble either way. Maybe you two will drift apart and find others within those two years, and maybe you won’t.

Well, if you want to wait, you can. I assume you two would still keep in touch? So if you do decide to wait, you can both promise to be completely honest. If either of you starts falling for someone else, let the other know so that neither one of you is just sitting around waiting for nothing.
